Born in the soulful city of Detroit, Mary Mar, better known as BGIRL MAMA, is a dynamic force of nature—a Khmer Muslimah b-girl blending powerful moves with heartfelt music. Growing up in a bustling Cambodian family of seven kids, where every day was a chorus of singing and dancing, she discovered her passion for performing early on. From grade school choirs to the high-energy stages of show choir and musical theater, she set the foundation for a journey that’s as bold as it is inspiring.

Her breakin’ (breakdancing) story began in 2001 at the legendary St. Andrews Hall, and she hasn’t looked back since! With crews like Hardcore Detroit® and Venus Fly, she’s left her mark on stages across the U.S. and Canada—even performing at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. As part of the trailblazing duo Mama2, she’s toured globally, inspiring through dance and activism.

But there’s more to BGIRL MAMA than just her iconic moves—her music is a universe of its own. 🎶 After years of keeping her beats under wraps, she unleashed her first track, Hungry Eyes, in 2020—a funky breakbeat that marked the beginning of her journey as a producer and songwriter. Now, with tracks like breathe, Get It, Got It, Good!, and the electrifying Unicorn Alien, she’s preparing for the release of her debut album, Becoming: Unicorn Alien (coming in 2025).
